Fun Valentines Day Activities!

This week I have been thinking about what I will be doing for centers the week & day of Valentine's Week. I decided to let the students try something new!

During centers, each student will be given a choice board:

I will have these 9 centers around the room! Students will need to do 3 a day, and cross out the box when they have finished the activity. 

Here are some of the fun activities below:

Quick & Easy Christmas Themed Literacy Centers!

We've been having allot of fun in our classroom with Mr. Sparkles, our Elf on the Shelf from the North Pole!

Tomorrow, Mr. Sparkles will be delivering our very own classroom mailbox straight from the North Pole!

During our Daily 5 block, students will be able to write letters to Santa, make Christmas Lists or Lists for others! They will put their letters in this mailbox and every night, Mr. Sparkles will deliver them to Santa's Workshop!

I created this Literacy Center Pack for my students to use when they write their letters to Santa. 

In the pack there are 3 Different Letter Templates, 12 Christmas Words ready to print & hang, and 2 different word work worksheets!

I love making things that are quick and easy to print and go!

Christmas Wish Mini Lesson and Bulletin Board!

I love Christmas time with my firsties!

This is a bulletin board my mom did for 30 years and I plan to carry on the tradition. 

First, I hang my reindeer on my bulletin board:

Then I read my students A Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Anderson

We make a circle map as a class to brainstorm all the things we would wish for this Christmas. After reading this story - I guide students to make choices like: World Peace, Food for all the Hungry, My Grandma not to Be Sick...etc. 

Then students create this quick and very easy craftivity:

They write at least one sentence about what their wish for Christmas is, then color around the lines/the back! I even let them use a little glitter glue :)

Last I hang the ornaments from the Reindeer Antlers. 

The students came up with some of the SWEETEST Christmas Wishes:

Christmas Writing Activity: What Should Mrs. Claus get Santa for Christmas?

This year we will be completing this fun writing activity in my classroom!

First we will read:

Then we will discuss Santa's LONG journey around the world. How TIRED he must be. How he probably needs new clothes, new mittens, maybe a new sleigh!

Then I pose the question: What do you think Mrs. Claus should get Santa for Christmas? (Keeping in mind everything we just discussed). 

I encourage students to think of things Santa may really need (and they always come up with pretty funny ones, like a trip to the Bahamas!)

After we brainstorm as a class, students will use the brainstorming worksheets, rough draft paper and final draft paper to complete their writing!

This is always a fun activity and I can't wait to see what my students come up with this year.

November Thankful Turkey Bulletin Board

I love November!

Changing my bulletin board is sometimes the LAST thing I want to do at the end of a long day. But, I L-O-V-E how excited my kiddos get when they see the new board for their projects!!

This month I went with a giant Thankful Turkey. Here is my progression:

I used my smart board to trace circles on the different sized papers and I free handed the rest. He turned out pretty stinkin' cute!

Next, I had the students write a sentence describing what they are thankful for this year onto their Turkey Feathers. I had so much fun reading all the things they were thankful for! Most were thankful for their family, friends, pets and their teacher! Melts my heart.

Here is what the bulletin board ended up looking like at the end of the season with their Thanksgiving Narratives:
